As much as I enjoy doing jobs I really don't like that leave me cold inside and may be taking a tiny piece of my soul with them every time I go ( dramatic but true) I decided to apply for a place on a real life course at a real life University after years of telling myself I just wasn't academic enough because Ive always been told the same by teachers at school, well do you know what maybe I am really academic but your teaching style was so fucking boring and in fact I would hang on every word if the person teaching me was teaching me about something I truly loved and had passion for..... and guess what, that's how I feel about food, I love the feeling you get when you feed people and make them happy with your food..food is love people!!! And my passion must have come across in my interview because I was offered a place on the course by the lovely tutor there and then so up yours teachers and self doubting!
Here I come 'Culinary Arts' HOORAY FOR ME,YEY!!!!!!!!!!
P.S sorry about the swear word, I don't tend to swear on my blog considering how much I swear in my everyday life (I can be quite uncouth you know) but I think the 'F' word had to be used on this occasion, sorry if your sensitive to that kind of thing.....actually I'm not sorry 'fuck' look I did it again.
Congrats Pistachio is amazing!! gloria

ReplyDeleteHi Sam! Thanks for stopping by and leaving the kind comments on my blog. I just read your post on being accepted into Culinary School. Awesome and congratulations! Your last comment on the "F" word reminded me of the scene from Love Actually where Hugh Grant meets Martine McCutcheon and they have a very funny exchange with that word. Sometimes it fits! I teach as an adjunct Psychology Professor at a college here and it saddens me when teachers discourage students. I love it when I hear students describe a professor, though that inspires and encourages them. I hope your time at Culinary School will be filled with those kinds of instructors. Bravo to you for not letting your negative experiences stop you. Bravo to you for taking a chance at school again. You are brave, smart and spirited!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Sam! You are going to have the time of your life!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and best wishes
Dennis
Well done you. Great stuff. It sounds a really interesting course - it doesn't mean you get really arty and posh does it?
ReplyDeleteDear God no not in any way Phil, I will never be arty or posh...It sounds a lot posher than it is!! It's got a large emphasis on the business side of cooking, what impact food has on our environment, work placements at some seriously famous restaurants like Heston Blumenthal restaurant 'The Fat Duck' which would be amazing. Working in a professional kitchen does scare me a little as I'm not great at being shouted at, some of last years students said that most of the kitchens they worked in were very aggressive and I’m not a fan of aggression!
ReplyDeleteIt's good for a person who start their own culinary based business of some kind and that is exactly what I want to do SO I'm going to give it a go!!
Thanks Chef Dennis, very nice to have you here!!
Mario once again you have said some very kind words, so thank you for that, I met my course tutor and he was a really lovely man who clearly loved his job and we got on really well so all seems well to me which is great
Well done! What an achievement for you!
ReplyDeletegood luck and have a wonderful time at college :)
ReplyDeleteyou are so lucky! i wish i could be studying this. i will be the ultimate happiest nerd there is researching recipes outside of school hours and practising without the teachers telling me too. hope this goes well for you, can't wait to see what you'll share! x
